The Woven Sounds & Roots Revival

Mehdi Aminian’s musical journey began with a deep connection to Persian Music, particularly the Ney, during his adolescence in Iran. Leaving his home country at the age of 16, and travelling through Europe and Southeast Asia, he gained the awareness of, and got the opportunity to experiment with, some of the world’s oldest musical traditions. With the documentary “The Woven Sounds” he brings into the spotlight a unique cultural tradition – that of the singing patterns weavers of Iran –  recorded for the first time on camera. His documentary features their singing traditions, highlighting the stories behind the objects, gazing into some of the very sensitive issues related to the condition of women in Iran, the survival of artisans in a challenging environment, and the paradoxes of living in a dictatorship.
